As a child John Oda had a severe stuttering challenge. John went to a private catholic school St. Mary's Grade School in
Michigan City, Indiana. One day in the first grade, one the nuns told John he was retarded, and wouldn't finish eighth grade
because he stuttered.
Those words were like being struck my lightening and feeling the aftershock for the rest of his life. Summer vacation was
blissful that year, and John was glad that he would be moving up a grade and getting away from the insensitive nun. However,
when he returned to school he was devastated to discover that he was being held back. He was forced to repeat the first grade
simply on the basis of the fact that he stuttered. Being small child, John was confused, and asked himself "WHY". He even
began to think maybe the nun was right, and he might be retarded. Those thoughts penetrated into his little brain like battery
acid successfully killing every hope of success he had.
Fortunately, John had strong parents who loved him. His mother told John that her father stutters, and so did your grandfather
and both of them overcame it. Then his mother stated; "everyone has a belief system, and he shouldn't listen to negative people
comments, and when people talk about you, that is the best luck in the world".
John held on with all his might to his mother's words, and pursued his education. When he graduated eighth grade John told
the nun that he made it. The nun could not admit she had been wrong, and again put him down saying, "You won't finish high
school".
What the nun didn't understand was, that John was now older now, and all her words did now, is too start a fire in John.
It was those very same words that led John Oda to create Oda Research International (ORI) LLC.

Testimonial
" In spite of our burned out skepticism, we noticed subtle changes in his attitude immediately. By
the second week, it was if his metabolism had sped up. He was actually doing his homework unprompted and pitching in on his
homework and chores. We are witnessing what appears to be nothing more than a transformation. John you are a true miracle
worker." |

" He has been in various forms of counseling and psychiatric intervention, including a year of medication
for lethargy and depression (Zoloft). None of these efforts have done much, beyond addressing some of his earlier, more disturbing,
rage behavior that have since virtually disappeared. Hes been involved since January in martial arts, Audubon summer program,
and has profited from a warm and growing relationship with his stepfather. These have really helped, but aside from their
minimal mitigations, we had previously put all our faith in the psychological support mentioned above, which have been, as
I said unimpressive compared to the immediate and stark changes we seen in him since becoming your student. I am now a reformed
skeptic and grateful mom! " |
